Our finances
The Candlelight Trust manages funds in four distinct areas:

sail training

bursary
-
general funds

active project(s)
1) Annual sailing
The vast majority of our funds are restricted to the support of an annual sailing initiative (see LINK for more details)
2) Bursary
A small bursary fund is maintained to address specific, small, short-term needs within the constraints of our charity principal objects
3) General funds
There is a small amount of money which has no restrictions of usage although this is generally only used to fund any operating expenses of the charity (e.g. payment of fees to complete audits of our accounts).
4) Active project
The Candlelight Trust, working with the Headteacher at St John Baptist Primary School, will agree on a strategic direction for the next 2-3 years. Upon agreement of a working project definition (including costs) the charity will set about raising the necessary funds to support the initiative. Once the funding has been secured and the project has begun, the Headteacher will report on progress and subject to acceptable updates the funds will be released upon receipt of invoices. Upon successful completion of a project, final retained monies will be released to suppliers and the project will conclude.
Over the life of the Candlelight Trust it has funded the following projects in this way:

Construction and fit out of a dedicated technology room

Support of an Irresistible Learning programme - enabling a broad range of visits and activities that many of the children would not normally experience

Development of a state-of-the-art recording studio and media suite

Creation of a 21st century school library
The latest project is a mental health initiative. Further details can be found HERE
The aim of the charity is not to hold excess funds for extended periods. As a result, the annual accounts of the charity will see noticeable increases and decreases over time as funding is obtained and then dispersed to the school as each project develops.

Note that The Candlelight Trust does not raise funds from the public. Other than occasional donations from parents or Trustees all funds are raised from other charitable organizations. As an example, we have received funds from the following organizations in the past:
